Employee empowerment, however, doesn’t mean that managers can simply sign off and not interact with the individuals they supervise. Direct manager performance management is key to an empowered staff: without it, it’s difficult to envision how an employee could develop a clear understanding of his or her particular role within the company and effectively execute the duties of the position.
Smart leaders are focusing on employee empowerment
Perhaps the most common symptom among disengaged employees is their sense of being ‘cogs in the machine’, simply performing perfunctory tasks and unable to take real ownership of their work. As such, companies that want to improve employee engagement may need to rethink their techniques from the bottom up, creating more empowered employees who take an active role within the firm.
